A very cool alternative to pricey logo design

LogoYesWhether you’re looking to give your blog a more distinct identity or are starting up a new company, you’ll likely eventually consider a logo design and the costs involved in the process. As someone who has designed logos in the past, I can tell you it’s not cheap. A good and competent designer is usually going to charge you a minimum of $500, considering the amount of time involved in the design process.

Well that’s a lot of money, right? Fortunately LogoYes gives you the alternative of a do it yourself logo design which comes with a much more reasonable price for those on a budget. For just $99 you get a custom created logo downloadable as a high resolution EPS file which means it will be in a vector format. Vector is wonderful because you can make your logo absolutely HUGE if you’d like and it will never become pixelated. Other file formats will also be provided such as GIF and JPEG.

I decided to design a logo myself and give the LogoYes system a whirl. In a word the system is impressive. I created some screenshots to document the logo design process from beginning to end.

First I of course needed a company name so I went with the first silly sounding thing that popped into my head - Eye4Dezine. Cool, eh? Now with a company name in mind the next thing to do was to first choose what style of logo I want. I was given three choices - high-tech, bold and flair.

After choosing the flair option the next thing I needed to do was a choose an industry which related to my company. I chose “Arts + Entertainment”.

At this point I was greeted with 10 pages of symbol categories to choose from.

I found something I liked on page two. Check out that shnazzy eye category. Perfect!

Next I had the option to choose from several different eye symbols. As you can see they’re all quite cool.

Finally once I had chosen my image I was able to choose which font I wanted to use for my company name from a rather long list of fonts. After that I found the options to change the scale of both my symbol and company name as well as change the colors. This is what I eventually ended up with.

The entire process took me roughly 10 minutes. Not bad! Obviously this process isn’t for everyone. If you have a very specific idea in mind regarding what you want in a logo, chances are you may need to pony up the cash and hire yourself a designer. However, if you’re operating on a very tight budget, LogoYes definitely may be the answer you’re looking for in cheap, quality custom logo design as there’s literally thousands of symbols to choose from to construct your logo.

Very nice logo Mike! I’ve used LogoYes before and have found them to be the best when it comes to design-it-yourself logos. With a little creativity and an eye for what works and what doesn’t one can really come up with a striking logo design.

    Here’s one I designed a while back for a company I started:

Ooops, I guess HTML doesn’t work in the comments. Here’s the link instead: Here’s the link to the logo instead.

You know Mike, I wasn’t sold on this until I saw Aaron’s logo that he had made which looks pretty slick. I might have to give this a whirl. Hope you’re having a good weekend!

@Aaron: Very cool! It shows what you can do if you spend a little time with it =)

@Bush: LOL…yes I’ll admit my logo wasn’t all that impressive, but I was more interested in just showing how it all works :)

I’m actually having a pretty lousy weekend. I picked up a really wonderful head cold :|

This is interesting Mike. I’ve never seen anything like this. The price is reasonable and the logos look great. I like the one Aaron made. It looks like a pro created it.

Hey Mike thanks a lot for that info. I was not really sure about the best place to go and create a logo for my small business. Thanks a lot.

Mike says, “@Aaron: Very cool! It shows what you can do if you spend a little time with it =)”

Huh?! I did that in less than a minute. And I didn’t even use my hand on the mouse - I used my foot….my left foot…and I’m right-handed! Plus, my eyes were closed and I was busily chowing down on a chocolate bar…and roasting some marshmallows.

    Sheesh.

    LOL. :P

Thanks Bush, Mike and Erina for the compliment on my logo! It didn’t take too long to do really, but I think having a background in art helped me a bit. Nonetheless, it’s definitely a great system, and like Mike, I also recommend it. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper than paying a designer to do one for you….and with a little time you can make one that looks just as professional :)

    Shine on,
    Aaron

That is cool… I am going to make a logo for everything I own so I can “brand it”…. I will have a Danielle Desk and a Danielle TV and a Danielle Printer…. So many logos!!! Great tip Mike… I am going to have to check it out and spend way to much time creating logos I don’t need… and also maybe a few that I do! :)

Oof. Sorry to hear about the cold. I may have passed it to you via my message on XBL. I caught a doozy a week from last Friday. Completely KO’d me that day but I was feeling much better the day after and got over the whole thing rather quickly. Just drink OJ like it’s going out of style.

    @Aaron: Show off…lol.

@Danielle: You need a logo with a pink teddy bear in it :)

@Bush: I knew something wasn’t right about that voice message! Ya know I’d love to reply to those things but my mic is currently in about three different pieces after sort of crushing it with my chair. Whoops.

@Jenny: Good luck with it :)
