Animals – our furry and loyal friends.

Cuuuute.Navtej Kohli is a philanthropist who has offered the opportunity on Sponsored Reviews to simply write about a chosen charity. Well as most should know, Tish and I just recently finished blogging for charity during the Blogathon and we’ve already discussed doing it again next year, so I thought I’d use this opportunity to take a very early look at a possible charity to blog for next year.

Considering all the focus and attention right now in the media on dog fighting, it seemed like a good idea to look into some animal related charities. My fear is that they will discover many more athletes beyond Michael Vick are involved with the “sport” of dog fighting. If that’s the case, imagine how many rescued dogs are going to be in need of some serious love and care. One such organization that will likely step in to help will be the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

The ASPCA was formed in 1866 as the first organization in the Western Hemisphere committed to the rights of animals and preventing animal abuse. Considering how much I’ve always loved animals I believe the ASPCA is fighting for a most worthy cause. I don’t own any pets now, but in the past I’ve owned cats, dogs and even a cute little floppy eared rabbit. A pet is not only a loyal friend, but like a member of the family and should be treated as such. It’s important that there are charities like the ASPCA to step in and look out for the well being of mistreated animals when no one else will.

There’s a wealth of information for animal lovers on the ASPCA website. There’s tips for proper pet care, how to keep your home poison safe, and there’s even a cute section for kids called Animaland which is designed to help them better understand how to care for and treat their furry friends. I’ve observed that many young children don’t quite know how to handle animals but with a little help they can learn to understand. Of course it’s not always children that could use some help learning how to treat animals properly.

After spending a little time on their website today I’m considering a membership with the ASPCA even though I don’t currently have any pets :)

Great post, Mike! I’m a member of the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the US. Both are wonderful organizations committed to very worthwhile causes.

Thank you, ladies :) I obsessed over this post all day and rewrote it several times. I don’t know why I had such a hard time with it ;P

    Hi Mike,
if you have need more suggestions on picking a charity, my blog (on inspiring non-profit causes) has a few suggestions for you ;-))…
One question for you though, hope you can help me out.. I’m kinda new to all this ‘sponsored review’ stuff, and couldn’t quite figure out on Navtej’s website what you mean with: “who has offered the opportunity on Sponsored Reviews to simply write about a chosen charity.”
    How does this work??

p.s… maybe, it’s is just my browser.. but half of the comments are unreadable cause of a dark background???

Hi Ellen :) Yeh you won’t find the offer on his website. He made the offer as a writing opportunity through sponsoredreviews.com :)

You’re the very first person in over 2,000 comments that’s mentioned trouble with a dark background..hehe ;P Which browser do you use? The background behind the comments is actually set as a very light color.

    @Mike, thanks, I’ll check there!
As far as the comments go, didn’t see this before (last week e.g).. I have normal Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, but the comments are (in my browser) depicted alternately (not sure this is the right word???) in light background and grey background (as seems to be the background now of the complete blog??)
    I’m sorry.. maybe just my (company’s) settings….

That’s very odd, Ellen. I actually just checked it again in IE 6 after your initial post and all looks okay here, so I’m not sure what could be causing it for you =/

The comments do alternate background color though. They alternate between a light off-white color and a very light gray.

I bow to you my friend! Your choice is a very worthy cause indeed. I am (well my Mum is) a member of both of those organizations. And we gather content and research from those sites for many of our posts.

We are so pleased that you want to help the animals in need…it is one of our missions and can never have enough support. Thank you!

    From your virtual pup pal,
    Johann

Mike, seeing that you don’t get any other complaints, it’s probably just me (wouldn’t be the first time either ;-))
One more thing though… I can’t get into that sponsoredreview site without leaving all kind of (payment) details which are completely irrelevant at this moment. Is there any way you could let me know just a bit more on this concept from Navtej Kohli? Maybe just mail me the request text or something?
As I said, given my rankings it’s really not applicable to me, but I am really curious about this one..

Brown: I am not going to translate it for you, this time. It’s a secret code :)

I have several Dutch friends. I could easily have it translated ;)
