One milestone reached, one more to go.
I’ve had a couple personal goals for myself since I started taking this whole blogging thing more seriously several months ago. One goal was to reach the top 10k on Technorati and the other was to break the 100,000 mark on Alexa. I know, I know…the Alexa numbers are rather flawed, but still it’s a number that a lot of people look upon to determine the significance and value of a website.
So far I’ve reached one of my goals. Today Thingsbymike.com sits at 96,638 on Alexa. One down one to go. I’m creeping up on the top 10k of Technorati and may hopefully make it there in a couple weeks. Currently I’m just under the 13k mark at 12,610. I have no idea what I’ll do once I’ve finally accomplished both goals. Maybe I’ll throw a big blog party and invite everyone over to wade around in the hot tub, which Mark and Brown seem to think I have ;P
The Lovesick Alien site is also very close to breaking the 100k mark on Alexa, which is probably more impressive considering that site has only been online since April. I think it may break the mark sometime next week. It has a loooong way to go though to reach the top 10K on Technorati.
What sort of goals have you set your for yourself with your blog? Have you reached them yet?
I want to make my header clickable… Joking (well I actually want to do that but that is not my long term goal).
I would like things similar to what you just posted with the added goal of also spearheading the movement for more ethical SEO for blogs.

I am in the top 5k of technorati google 5 page rank, but alexa? I just cant get there….

That’s just awesome Mike. I never focused on Alexa, but I might have to go to counseling soon for my Technorati addiction. Maybe next year all of us should go to one of those blogging conventions. Now that would be cool! Not the convention, but the hanging out part. If we ever find a hot tub I’m bringing champagne! LoL. Lifestyles of the rich and blogging.

I don’t know that I have any goals right at this second with rankings and such, but I’m sure I’ll come up with some after the PR update when I realize that PPP, Sponsored Reviews and ReviewMe still hate my site. (#):)

@Jodi: I’m not quite sure how I’m managed to do so well with Alexa. All I’ve done is put up their little widget thingy in my sidebar. Have you tried that? :)
@Christy: I’d feel so out of place at one of those conventions. All those six figure earning bloggers and then me…a zero figure earner :P
@Bush: Don’t feel alone, Buddy. They all hate me as well…lol. I don’t know how the heck anyone gets anything with Sponsored Reviews and Review Me :/
@Mike – I don’t know if you read it too, but my friend Opal at veganmomma.com/blog said that sometimes she has to apply to like 25 reviews before she gets anything back. I’m hoping that once my Alexa drops it a bit more and my PR goes up I’ll look a bit better to advertisers but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. (#):)
I even tried that the last time I logged in there. Still absolutely nothing…lol. I wonder if they even bother to update a site’s Alexa rank and such? I signed up there when my Alexa was in the millions, I think. My Technorati was as well.
Yeah, I signed up with all those services a WHILE ago and nothing on the way of updates. When I finally get the stats, I’m gonna send an e-mail or two to the cust service departments. Seems like that’s the only way to get things done over at those places.
Having our own convention sounds like a great idea! Oh wait .. I’m too shy to attend haha.

I shall answer it anyway ;) For the Alexa ranking I’d say the biggest thing that’s affected my traffic has been getting posts posts stumbled here and there. When people stumble your posts using StumbleUpon you can pick up anywhere between 100 and 800 unique visitors a day…or more. You might consider joining the Stumble Project on my forum :)
As for the Technorati rank the biggest thing bringing me links right now is that Schmooze Award. The funny thing is when I made my original post about it I never asked anyone to link back to me when they passed the award to others, but someone along the line somewhere made guidelines for handing out the award to others and included in there that each person who receives the award must link back to me. Sooo, that was an unexpected side effect of the schmooze :-o

That’s truly cool about your rankings! If I didn’t have this day job, I’d be able to give my blog a little more love, but thankful for what it has become so far.
