Handy tool makes schmoozing a breeze

Thanks to Danielle I’ve begun using possibly the coolest tool any budding schmoozer should have in their arsenal. coComments.com has devised a Firefox extension and service that makes keeping track of blog discussions extremely easy. Just sign up for a free account, install their extension and start making comments like you normally would. You’ll immediately notice something like this below each comment box:

coComments
That’s the coComments extension at work. Whenever you leave comments the discussions are tracked on your own profile page on the coComments site, making it easy for you to see which discussions on which blogs have recently been updated.
coCOmments
There’s a little symbol in the bottom right corner of your Firefox browser that will let you know there are new comments waiting for you to read. Clicking the icon will take you to your page on coCOmments. As far as I can tell so far, the icon seems to update nearly immediately when discussions are updated. If you’re a skilled schmoozer or aspire to be one, I can see this handy little tool saving oodles of time. It has for me so far.

    @Danielle: I didn’t know you could do that :P

    @Mark: I’d seen it around before but didn’t even pay any attention to it til Danielle wrote about and explained it more. I really should have checked it out sooner :P

    @Johann: You’re welcome Johann :D

    I got this up and running last night – I love it. Thanks again!

    Can you feel yourself already becoming a much more powerful schmoozer? :P

  10. Bush Mackel 12 July 2007 at 3:09 pm Permalink

    Well I can certainly feel myself getting less and less done at work if that’s what you were asking. (#):D

    Ahh yes, an unfortunate side effect of schmoozing ;P

    Oh, the maths question above was tough for me… Can we have words instead ? ;-)

    I tried that for some months ago. After a while it got just… too much, so I disabled it ;) I remember that it also slowed down my browser…

    @Zhu: It’s nothing the Windows calculator can’t handle :P

    @Malin: So far I’m really liking it. I spend a lot of time commenting on blogs, so it’s nice to be able to keep track of discussions in one place. I haven’t had any problems with it slowing my browser down :)

    Okay, so I’ve installed this little puppy and started to get giddy about it, but then hit a snag. I must have tried to make a comment on one of your posts here, Mike, like 5 times. Each time I got the “sending to cocomment server”, but never completed and consequently didn’t post the comment. It wasn’t until I disabled the extension that it let it finally post.

    Maybe their server was having a bad day. But I’ll try it again.

    I’ve had a couple little snags like that as well tonight. Hopefully it’s just a server hiccup =/

    I just installed this fellow and I am looking forward to increasing my schmooze potential. No more dirt and stick for me. I am now ready to embrace the top of the line in schmoozey goodness. Of course, I am going to have a hard time getting up to Danielle’s level, but I think it is a good goal.

    I still have trouble with it. Have to disable it more often than enabling it. Grrr! It’s such a good idea, but it’s starting to bring down my schmooze! ;)

    I’ve been having trouble with it lately too. Grrr. It’s such a cool tool, but it definitely has some flaws. In fact I can’t even get it to work on your site at all, Mark. It doesn’t seem to get along with the threaded comments.

    This is odd because I am not really having that many problems at all – I have had a few but nothing too major.

    You guys ought to report this to coComments so they can work to make this good application even better! :)
