You can have comments without it, but it's a nice way to help reduce some of the spam from all the annoying porn bots and such that crawl around the web ;P When I first started this blog last year I used to get a ridiculous amount of spam that I'd have to moderate and delete all day, until I installed the simple math plug-in. So now I'm good til the robots learn how to do math :D Well the math thing isn’t actually part of the default installation of Wordpress.
