Dealing with an infected PC

For the first time in all the years that I’ve used computers, I finally found myself the victim of an annoying little virus this evening. It was surprising considering I’m very careful about what I download, what I open, etc. I of course also run virus software. My software of choice has always been AVG, however now I’m considering making a switch, since it did not detect any viruses.
Anywho here’s my story of what happened.
When I need to grab files from one of my hard drives on my PC, I always like to click on the “My Computer” icon on my desktop then navigate to the drive I need, for example the C: drive. Tonight when trying to navigate to a drive I found myself being greeted by an error message that read “c:\resycled boot.com is not a vaild win32 application”. Obviously there is no system folder called “resycled”, so I knew immediately that my PC was infected. Grr.
After doing some Googling and trying a few solutions that didn’t work, I stumbled onto one that did. I found a person on a tech support forum recommending a piece of software called Flash Disinfector. While it was created to disinfect USB flash drives, I decided to give it a shot anyway. To my delight it did the trick and removed the nasty little virus from each of my drives. The total time to remove it was no more than 10 seconds. Very nice.
If you’re having this same issue with your PC, I highly recommended downloading Flash Disinfector, which you can find here.

Hey Mike! How ya doin, buddy?
Sorry to hear of the computer trouble. I can’t stand hearing how people use their powers for evil, but glad you found a solution.
I had an experience yesterday with clicking on a window that didn’t have the usual “X” to close it. I should have known better because I was redirected to a rather — ahem — graphic image of two adults having a little “fun” time. I just hope I didn’t download something behind the scenes. My virus software didn’t pick up anything, but they’re not always 100 percent.
Anyway, hope you and kitty are doing well.

Viruses suck. Glad you got it fixed that fast. :) And thanks for the heads up on Flash Disinfector. I hadn’t heard of it before and will check it out.
Hope all is well, my friend. Have a happy Thanksgiving! :)

@Mark: Why hello there, sir! I’m doing well I suppose. Hope you are as well :)
It is really is quite irritating the lengths people will go to just to mess with your stuff. I don’t get why they feel the need to. It seems as though their talents could be better used.
@Aaron: Hey there! Hope you have a happy turkey day as well ;D
