Diary of the Dead Short film contest entry

As I mentioned a few days ago, my cousin Jonathan and I have been working on an entry for the Diary of the Dead Short film contest. Well, we’re finally done! We kept it (very) short and sweet, focusing more on sound rather than actual zombies. Overall our idea was to create a bit of an homage to the original Night of the Living Dead film from 1968. I wish we could have had better weather and not such frigid temperatures so we could have gotten outside and shot more interesting footage, but in the end I guess we did okay considering the time frame we had to complete this and our non-existent budget.

The top ten voted videos on Myspace will be viewed by George Romero (director of Diary of the Dead) and ultimately five will be chosen to be included on the DVD release of Diary of the Dead. If you’d like to vote for our video and help us out, please do so! Just head over to Myspace and vote often. We’d certainly appreciate it =)

You’re more than welcome to blog about it as well. Hint, hint…nudge.

Hmm interesting. Made me jump. One problem with it though (and I know I’m knitpicking)…zombies don’t move that fast.

Depends which movie you’re watching. In some of the newer zombie flicks being made, the zombies are much quicker ;)

Hi Mike! I wish it were longer but I know how it is working on a non-existent budget and limited time. Still, it’s cool and your overall sound mix is great. I know you have a lot of experience with sound and digital recording.

I record all my home recordings with an older, hacked copy of Cool Edit Pro and write drums with fruity loops…haha, but I like to save my money. Anyway, I’ll sign into myspace and vote for your film.

Hey Bobby! Yeh, there’s a lot we wish we could have done with the thing but considering the terrible weather here and paltry budget, we just did what we could. Can’t wait til this Summer. Hopefully then we can put together the kind of things we’d really like to.

Pretty much most of the entries on Myspace are getting killed in the voting. There’s a couple entries I thought were really exceptional and it looks like the Myspace kiddies didn’t quite agree.

    Hey Mike,
Nice job on the entry – did you know you can find tons of video contests paying cash at Vidopp.com? It’s all I do and I just try to make it useful. You are lucky to have so much freedom on your blog!
