Will that spark ever return?

It dawned on me today that I rarely even visit my own blog anymore. I used to load it up regularly, click around, and eventually become inspired to write something new. Now it seems I have no motivation to do so. I am perhaps in the midst of the worst blogging funk I’ve ever been in. I used to always have one thing or another to write about. It feels lately like the well has gone dry.

I’m thinking perhaps I need to do something different around here in an attempt to revive my blogging ambition. Probably the easiest way to do that would be start with a new look. Something fresh that I’m not tired of seeing all of the time. At the moment I don’t have any specific ideas, but I think I’ll do some fiddling in Photoshop perhaps and see what I can come up with. Hopefully that will be enough to get me going again.

Anyone else stuck in a prolonged blogging funk right now? What steps are you considering taking to work your way out of it?

The Dark Knight - better late than never

So finally this past Friday, I went with my cousin to see The Dark Knight. While it was my first time, it was his fourth time seeing it. I’m glad I finally got out to see it because the film definitely lived up to all of the hype. Easily.

While every actor in the film turned in very impressive performances, it was Heath Ledger’s portrayal as The Joker which was most fantastic. Jack Nicholson’s Joker was pretty good years ago, but Ledger completely became the character and took the role in a much darker and more sinister direction. I found myself simply saying “wow” on several occasions. It’s so unfortunate that this was Ledger’s final performance, but he definitely ended on a high note. I don’t see how he could possibly not receive a posthumous Oscar nomination and likely win.

Aside from Ledger’s amazing performance I was also blown away by the incredible cinematography and lighting in the film. Christopher Nolan and his crew really outdid themselves. Nolan’s previous Batman flick, Batman Begins was easily one of the most beautiful looking films I’d seen in a long time and The Dark Knight topped it. I predict that it will at least win some awards for cinematography and art direction.

If you’re one of those few people that have yet to see The Dark Knight, you really need to see it. Don’t wait for the DVD. See it on the big screen. In the meantime here’s a pretty funny spoof of the movie, which I found on Youtube.

Would you like to win some goodies?

If you love a good contest (and really who doesn’t?), you should consider swinging by my buddy Mark’s place over at Me And My Drum. He and some his closest friends are giving away a whole lot of cool stuff. The grand prize is a brand spanking new Garmin Nuvi GPS navigation system valued at a cool $320. In all there are a total of 15 prizes, so that gives you plenty of chances to win! If you decide to enter, tell ‘em Mike sent you :)

Plugins, kittens and more!

In my last post I talked about a great plugin I stumbled upon to make switching out the 125×125 ad block plugins in your Wordpress sidebar much easier. Well, now I’ve found yet another plugin which helps you do the same thing. I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but WP125 sounds more robust than UBD Block Ads, allowing you things such as click tracking and even custom ad layouts.

When I have more time, I’m definitely going to try it out. Unfortunately right now my time is rather limited. I’m in the process of moving this weekend. Why am I blogging, you ask? I’m taking a little breather and having something cold to drink. I can’t wait til it’s all over. I hate packing and unpacking.

The good news is that once I’m all moved I’ll be getting a new kitten! I haven’t had a kitten in several years, so I’m looking forward to that. It’s a female and I’ve yet to think of a good name for it. Perhaps someone can suggest a good name =)

Great new ad block plugin for Wordpress

Yeh, I know, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new here. Between a very extended case of blogger block, Grifball and getting ready to move to a new place the end of this month, I haven’t had much of an itch to do any blogging. Fear not though, I’m not abandoning this blog. I’ll still make posts when I find something that inspires me.

Such is the case this morning. While hopping around the interweb, I stumbled onto an awesome new plugin called UBD Block Ads which helps you easily manage your 125×125 ad boxes in your Wordpress sidebar.

With the use of this plugin, you’ll no longer have to fuss with your sidebar every time you want to switch out ad boxes. You simply login into your Wordpress dashboard, drop your ad box code into the UBD admin page and update. That’s it! On top of that you can even have the ad boxes rotate. How cool. I currently have the plugin installed on BlogsWeLuv and it works beautifully.

If you’re someone who sells 125×125 pixel ad space on your blog, or does affiliate marketing, this plugin is a must have, without a doubt. It should go without saying that UBD Block Ads will definitely make your blogging life easier.

Currently you can only display two columns of ad boxes. I’d love to see the plugin updated in the future to also allow for three columns. Also it should be noted that as of right now, the plugin is not compatible with Wordpress 2.6, however the authors are working quickly to make it compatible.
