Favorite movies of the past year.

Well now that I’ve made my Oscar picks I thought I’d run down a list of movies I really enjoyed over the past year. I don’t necessarily think these are all Oscar worthy, but I enjoyed them. I won’t even attempt to put this list in any kind of order because quite honestly I’m doing this off the top of my head, so I’ll probably end up leaving something out. Who am I kidding? I KNOW I will.

Lucky Number Slevin – Such a fun movie and really great script with really witty dialogue. Of course Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman were great but don’t forget Lucy Liu. I just loved her character.

Pursuit of Happyness - I’m sure some would disagree but I believe this was Will Smith’s finest performance to date. What a great first role for his son as well.

Happy Feet – I loved this movie so much. I really thought I wasn’t going to so it was a huge surprise. The latino penguins were friggin’ hilarious.

Miami Vice – I know just about everyone, their grandmother and their gardener hated this movie but dammit, I liked it. I’ve always been a fan of Michael Mann’s films.

We Are Marshall – This was a good year for football movies and I think this was the best of them all. I can’t believe it took so long for someone to tell this story on the big screen.

Gridiron Gang – Another of the football movies. The Rock is turning out to be a pretty decent actor. He showed a little range in this film.

Invincible – And the other football movie. Marky Mark is starting to grow on me as an actor. I’ll still never forgot that stupid Funky Bunch though.

The Illusionist – I don’t think I’ve seen an Edward Norton film yet that I haven’t liked. He’s brilliant in everything. The best part about this film is the fact that I already figured out what the greatest illusion was before they revealed it and it still didn’t make it any less fascinating.

Children of Men – Man I loved the cinematography in this film. Great story as well. No nod for Best Picture by the Academy. Bastards.

Inside Man – I love Denzel’s movies. He rarely disappoints.

Deja Vu – Yet another solid Denzel movie. You really have to suspend disbelief though to appreciate this one.

Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny – This movie is so freakin’ stupid but that didn’t stop me from nearly laughing my nuts off.

United 93 – Heart-wrenching, unforgettable and real.

Brick – The first time I watched this movie I didn’t really like it. After watching it again I learned to appreciate it.

Click – Spanglish is still my most favorite Sandler film but this is a close second.

Little Miss Sunshine – Hilarious movie that’s also quite heartwarming. Loved the heroine addicted grandfather. Not that I condone herione addiction or anything like that. He was just damn funny.

The Departed – While I don’t think it was nearly as amazing as so many have made it out to be, I do think it was a very entertaining film and enjoyed it.

…and last but certainly not least…

Pan’s Labyrinth – An effin’ masterpiece. Enough said.
