So tomorrow it seems may be the day that we’ll be attempting to shoot if not all, at least most of the remainder of footage we want for our short film. If you watched the early footage I posted a couple weeks ago, none of that will be used. After getting used to the HV20 camera a little more and figuring out a few tricks, we decided to re-shoot everything and also reinvent our idea.

A couple days ago Jonathan and I went out and shot about 16 minutes of footage to use for the opening credits. After going through it all, I eventually edited it down to about 2 minutes which is plenty long enough for a short film. We made the decision to do the entire film in black and white, leaving only shades of red. That required figuring out how to do a color pass in Vegas, which turned out to be pretty simple. A color pass is basically a method of allowing only a color you designate to remain while washing out the rest. It turned out pretty well as you can see in the snapshot below.

This time around we figured it would be smart to bring the tripod along and managed to get much more steady footage as opposed to the Passing Through short film that I posted not long ago. Here’s hoping we’ll have this little film finished up before the end of next month. It certainly won’t be flawless or oscar-worthy but at the very least, it’s a fun learning experience.

On another note I saw Tim Burton’s latest flick, Sweeney Todd and it was freakin’ brilliant. Johnny Depp has been nominated for an Oscar for his role and rightfully so. He was fantastic. Everyone in the film was actually. Go see it if you haven’t already! Don’t bring the kids though.
