A meme you can sink your teeth into
Christy has tagged me with a meme I actually know something about…eating! Ahh yes, one of my most favorite pastimes. Surely this should be easy, right? Well…hopefully. The task is to write about five great places to eat which are local to me. That’s a toughy since the town I live in is so small you need a microscope to find it on a map. Don’t expect any five star restaurants in this list. I don’t even think there’s any with one star around here.
- China Moon – Despite the fact this place was once accused of kidnapping all the local cats and serving them as chicken, I still can’t get enough of their food. Everything tastes like chicken anyway, right? I love the General Tso’s, although I could do without the large chunks of onions and peppers. They also make some incredibly tasty fried cheese wontons.
- Mark’s Pizzeria – This is about the closest you’re going to get to homemade style pizza. Supposedly they’ve won awards. True or not they know how to make a good pizza. The sauce is crazy good and plentiful. Mark’s doesn’t skimp on the sauce like some other well known places. *cough Pizza Hut cough*
- D.P. Dough – I love calzones and especially love to make my own, however when I’m feeling too lazy and am in need of a calzone the only other option is to order out for one. So I pick this place by default. Not because they make the best calzones in town but because they seem to be the only ones that know that a calzone is not a calzone without ricotta cheese. Mine still taste better though. They need to learn to mix egg with the ricotta so the fillings don’t ooze all over the place.
- Ho Ho Buffet – I know what you’re thinking and NO this place is in fact not run by Santa Clause, unless Santa is a very small and rather grumpy Chinese man. Some of the best Orange Chicken I’ve ever had can be consumed here. To my knowledge they’ve never been accused of kidnapping felines either.
- Quiznos Subs – Despite what that guy named Jared on the tv commercials may say, Subway is NOT the best place to get a sub sandwich. If you’re looking for a real sub there’s only one place to go as far as I’m concerned…Quiznos. While Jared and his buddies tend be incredibly stingy with their meat, Quiznos is the complete opposite. You get enough meat for three subs. Not only that, but where else can you get great original subs like the Baja Chicken? So what will it be? A man sized sub stuffed with all the meat you can shake a stick at or a limp, nearly meatless sub from Jared? I know what I’m picking.
So there you have it, five places to get your grub on in my little town. Now according to the rules as I have read them on Christy’s site I have to list others who have done this list and where they are from, but first I’ll tag a few others for this meme. I shall choose Tish, Beenee, Danielle and Marzie.

You mean Jared is wrong? Maybe I should branch out and try another sub shop! Those sound like great places to eat, but you might want to research China moon to avoiding eating actual cats, I think that’s bad karma or something.
:)
Gotta have a break from puppies every now and then ;)
Hi Mike, Ho Ho Buffet sure sounds interesting LOL! So u make awesome calzones huh? Would love to try them one day! :) And thanks for tagging me, I’m gonna enjoy this meme ;)
Hi Marzie :D I actually used to have a recipe saved in a file somewhere for my calzones, but I can’t find it :(
This is my second tag – do you think that I will eventually get jaded enough not to squeal and clap when I get tagged? I sure hope not!!!
Hahaha…so I take it you were pleased to be tagged? :P
I agree – I don’t like Subway much. They’re very flimsy with their veggies too (I’m a vegetarian, heh). Quiznos, on the other hand, is crazy generous with stuffing those dang sandwiches!
Now I’m all hungry. Darn you, darn you and your food post! *shakes fist*
Haha…sorry :D
I first fell in love with Quiznos when I lived in Houston for a couple years. When I moved back to New York I missed them terribly, but then they finally put one here in our teeny little town this past year :D
Extremely pleased – I am going out tonight and I plan on taking some pictures of some of the places so I will post mine tomorrow!
I don’t know if I agree with the whole Quiznos thing though – I find they put the same flavor seasoning on everything, and it annoys me. But I do like that I can request extra meat. I like extra meat!!!
Despite being home to the 8 dollar sub, Quiznos is pretty good.
It’s worth it :D
Oh no! I hope you find the recipe! You got me going on calzones that I’m gonna try and find some nice ones today! :)
Oh man, I love DP Dough. One of my best friends owns several of them. Where do you live/what DP Dough are you near?
Haha… something I can relate to.. this will be an interesting post
@Marzie: If I ever find what I did with the recipe, I’ll post it here ;P
@Beenee: Tis why I tagged you :D hehe
@Matt: I live in tiny Cortland, NY. I’m not really a big fan of DP Dough but they’re the closest thing to correctly made calzones around here :)
I made a calzone once – it was so bad and it took me all day to make it. I am usually a really good cook, but this time I shamed myself.
Hehe…it takes a lot of practice to perfect making them :D I really wish I could find my recipe. I may have to rewrite it =/
We’re getting a Quiznos soon. :)
Thanks for displaying the In Cinq button on your sidebar. I was wondering which one you’d choose. Looks nice on your blog!
Woohoo! Try the Baja Chicken. It’s pretty tasty :D
You’re welcome, Adria! You did a great job with them :)
So checking back here, doesn’t look like WackArnolds (Mickey D’s) made the list.
Haha…I hate that place. Any time I eat food from that place I feel sick the rest of the day. Yuck ;P
I sooo badly want a Sub after all of this food talk!
I’d post one for you, Christy, but I don’t think that would really help much :P
My uncle did a health inspection for China Moon.. Before it was China Moon, and possibly whatever it was before China Moon. Gosh, how many chinese restaurants didn’t that building go through? Anywho.. you wouldn’t eat there if you knew what I knew!!
I miss DP Dough like something bad, I LOVED their buffalo chicken wing calzones. :(
Quiznos must be new out there, it wasn’t there when I was there! We have them all over out here though, and I do really like their subs!
I’d probably still eat there ;P
Quiznos was opened just a few months ago.
What do you know about what happended at China Moon before it ws China Moon then?
I’ve eaten there before, help!!
Firstly thanks for doing the tag…Hope you enjoyed it…Super sorry for reading it so late…will be putting you on the update list…if you know of anyone else doing the tag feel free to message me and I’ll add them on the updated list
The food looks so good!! I think I’ve tried the Hollywood Cafe Chee Cheong Fun before…mmmm loooks so good!! and the special sirap bandung at restaurant Desa Selatan look so absolutely divine!!!
Yum. I love Quizno’s!
