Pagerank Prediction with iWebTool.com

I don’t know how much stock I’d really put into sites that predict upcoming Google pagerank but my friend Teresa pointed out iWebTool.com to me yesterday, so I decided to give it a try. Here’s hoping their prediction is right. I ended up with the following predictions.

  • Thingsbymike.com – increase from PR2 to PR5 (1,781 backlinks)
  • Lovesickalien.com – increase from PR0 to PR4 (1,275 backlinks)
  • BlogsWeLuv.com – increase from unranked to PR3 (190 backlinks)

I think I’d be most inclined to believe the prediction for this domain since it’s the oldest of the bunch. BlogsWeLuv is the site Tish and I started no more than a few weeks ago. It’s hard to imagine that jumping all the way to a PR3 already, but we shall see I guess. It can’t possibly be that simple. What do your pagerank predictions look like? Good news or bad?

I would say this tool is somewhat accurate, usually withing 1 PR point of your actual future PR.

I would guess that blogsweluv.com will likely have a good PR considering it has gotten a lot of good links from sites with PR.

I checked mine and it says PR5 as well from PR3, that would be nice! And my main index page is supposed to go from PR2 to PR4.

    Cross my fingers!

Uh-oh! bushmackel.com – Going to PR5 from PR1!!! (I wish) I guess after the Toolbar Update (whenever that will be) we gotta all come back and post about how right or not right this little tool was.

@Danielle: What makes you believe in the accuracy of the tool? Just curious. You know more about all of this Google stuff than me :)

@Bush: It’ll certainly be interesting see how right it is. We’ll know whether we can trust predictions or not in the future :)

I have used it before, and I closely watched a group of about 10 domains change during the last domain. I found that though there were some differences on some of the domains, generally it was fairly accurate.

Google PR is calculated using a very complex math equation (nothing like the math test we have to take here!). I am not big on the math but in a nutshell it is calculated considering these factors:

PR of sites linking to yours / # of links on the pages linking to yours (the less links on the page the better) = your Google PR

This is very very very simplified, of course. :)

sorry when I said “during the last domain” I actually meant “during the last PR update”… oops!

Odd timing (I just wrote a brief article on the iwebtools firefox plugin). Anyway, I hope the prediction is wrong, my site is due to go from a 5 to a 5 (4.9). Since the last PR update I’ve had nearly double the number of links to my site, and it was finally added to dmoz.

As long as the accuracy it lists is at 85%+, there’s a good chance you will get the predicted rank. Otherwise, you have to subtract one from the predicted number.

    @Danielle: Thanks for the nerdy explanation..hehe :D

@Ross: I didn’t even realize they had a firefox plugin as well. I’ll have to check it out. From what I understand from reading others, it takes quite a lot to make that leap from 5 to 6, or beyond, but I sure have no clue. This pagerank stuff is such a huge mystery to me.

@Baron: Ugh. I might need a few more good backlinks then. I’m just below 85% with this domain. 90% or better with the other two.

As your PR increases, it does indeed become harder to increase.

I will simplify – say it takes 5 links to get to PR5 (1 PR point per link) – it could take 2 or 3 links to increase to PR 6, then 4 or 5 links to increase to PR 7, and so on. Again I simplify, but it is easier to explain and understand this way.

I dream of someday having a PR10 site, but likely this will never happen. But a girl can dream, can’t she?

Will you still be my friend and link to me when you reach PR10? :D

  11. Danielle 28 June 2007 at 10:00 am Permalink

Of course! If I reached PR10, I would need to make EVERY blogger link to me I think. I think the fame would likely bring me to wonder: Do they just like me because of my PR? And so I would have to be friends with the people “who knew me when” because they would be the only friendships I would be sure of. :P

  12. Mike 28 June 2007 at 10:44 am Permalink

Hahaha…well I like you now so it wouldn’t be just because of your PR ;P That would just be a bonus…hehe :D

When I put my domains on there, http://rhythm.mindmirror.net didn’t get a rank (?!), and HC got 4. That’s not too bad, I suppose. I don’t know how accurate it is though, because when I included “www” in front of it, HC got no rank. Heh.

  14. Mike 28 June 2007 at 11:18 am Permalink

    Hi Helen! :)

Did it say you had insufficient backlinks or anything like that? And yeh domains will be ranked different depending on whether you put the www or not. Do you use a 301 redirect? For example if you’d rather all traffic be redirected to http://helenchatter.com as opposed to http://www.helenchatter.com you could create a redirect. I’d recommend redirecting to the higher ranked of the two course..hehe. If you’re unsure of how to do it I can help ya with it :)

Nice to hear from ya again :)

  15. Brown Baron 28 June 2007 at 1:25 pm Permalink

Sometimes the service doesn’t work and you get the “insufficient backlinks” with no current rank displayed. Just try it again later and it should work.

  16. Jenny 28 June 2007 at 3:37 pm Permalink

I wonder what mine is gonna be. I should go look. But I heard these things aren’t very accurate. But I’ma see anyway.

  17. Helen 29 June 2007 at 12:48 am Permalink

What in the world is a 301 direct? LOL I guess I would prefer it be to helenchatter.com instead of http://www.helenchatter.com, but I didn’t realize there was a difference. lol :)

Hi to you too. :D I’ve had a crazy week so far but luckily it’s towards the end now. :)

  18. Mike 29 June 2007 at 5:26 am Permalink

Hehe…I’ll e-mail ya with a little more info about it Helen…when I’m a bit more awake that is :)

@Jenny: I’d be pretty happy if it is accurate but all we can do is wait and see :D

    wow good job

blogaboutyourblog is showing at a pr6 (5.8) so I’m definitely hoping for the best here.

  20. Mike 30 June 2007 at 2:23 pm Permalink

PR6 would be nice :D I think after reaching that ranking I would most likely give up actively trying to increase my pagerank. The jump from 6 to 7 and beyond is probably pretty difficult, to say the least. If it happens it happens ;)

  21. Adriaan 14 September 2007 at 7:31 am Permalink

I’m just wondering, if any of you who posted your predictions here have results corresponding to the original predictions… I would hope iwebtool’s predictor is accurate, it shows my site will get PR6…

  22. Nitesh 14 October 2007 at 11:43 pm Permalink

Ya but the page rank of my website is shown reducing frm 5 to 4. It has already reduced frm 6 to 5 last year. What should i do?? Please help??

  23. Mike 16 October 2007 at 9:56 am Permalink

@Adriaan: If Google every decides to do their update perhaps we’ll know if any of those predictions are accurate. In the meantime we all sit and wait ;P

@Nitesh: A lot of folks have been seeing reductions lately due to paid links. If you’re selling links through a site like Text Link Ads that might be the cause of your PR drop. Beyond that I have no idea. Google is such a huge mystery.

Wasn’t really satisified with the results iwebtool was coming up with. Found a site that gave better results, only drawback was it didn’t have as many tools: http://www.nevew.com
