So the last few days I’ve been a bit awol. I’d like to say I was away doing something productive, but I’d be lying. Nope, I was playing Halo. A LOT of halo. On Thursday of this past week, Bungie added a game called Grifball to their online matchmaking in Halo 3, which sadly will be gone after today. What I’ve discovered is that the game is just a wee bit addictive. Obviously if you’ve never played Halo 3 or the game of Grifball, you’re probably a little lost at this point. I’ll attempt to explain it.
It’s really quite simple. The game is played with teams of at least three but no more than four, on a flat playing surface (or court if you will) which is divided down the middle. On each end of the court is a flat circular goal. In the middle of the court sits a ball shaped bomb. The players on each team are equipped with these giant hammer things and rather futuristic looking swords.
When each round of the game begins, players dart towards the middle of the court, converging on the ball. It’s sort of similar to a face-off in hockey. When everyone reaches the middle, the hammers start swinging. Whoever ends up with the ball must now make it to the opposite end of the court and score a goal, which sets off the bomb. The remaining three players on his team have the job of clearing a path to that goal, while the opposing four players must defend their goal. As you can imagine, the whole process is violent and oodles of fun.

I’ve been doing quite well. The only side effect I’ve had so far from playing Grifball is a huge headache. It’s probably my fault as I tend to like to play Halo with headphones on. For some reason it’s easier for me to hear the players on my team. Unfortunately that also means I can hear the banging of the hammers loud and clear. After a couple hours of playing, it feels like someone dribbled my head like a basketball. Of course I continue to play because it’s fun. A LOT of fun.

Well it was, but unfortunately not anymore
They released it to the Halo 3 matchmaking on XBOX live this past Thursday and it ran throughout the weekend, ending last night. I have a feeling it will return though. It was a HUGE success and tons of fun.
The next thing Bungie has planned is a return of Team SWAT which will be on the weekend of March 20th. I’m looking forward to that, as Team SWAT is how I was introduced to Halo, back with Halo 2.
Ha ha ha. Thanks for the heads up about this over Live my friend! It’s funny that you just said you got a headache because on Sunday I had a WHOPPER of one myself from too much Burnout. When will we ever learn?

We won’t man, that’s the problem ;P Hey I finally picked up a new mic, so one of these days we should hook up again in Halo.
I’ve yet to play Burnout. I’m assuming it’s good since I see you playing it often..lol.
