Out with the old, in with the new

Gummy screenshotFor the last couple weeks I’ve been tinkering around with the Comicpress theme on the Gummy site, trying to give it a little overhaul. I was finally happy with it enough today that I went ahead and made the change. There’s still some tweaking here and there that I need to do but overall it’s just about complete.

My cousin and I are planning to do away with the stories that continue on for weeks and just do situational strips. I’m hoping that will help make the site a little more inviting to new readers. They won’t have to dig through the archives in order to get to the beginning of the stories and figure out what the heck is going on.

We *might* also have the possibility of finally doing some plush toys. I have an uncle that’s interested in investing into getting them created for us. Right now I’m working on getting quotes and trying to find the best deal. At least I’m trying to get quotes. So far no one is answering me back. I guess they don’t want my business. If anyone knows a company that can make bulk plush toys for less than 4 or 5 bucks each when the minimum order is around 500 toys, let me know! So far I’m finding some pretty steep prices.

Hi Mike. I think doing situational strips is a good idea…at least for the short term. I think it’ll engage more new readers more easily.

As for the plush toys, I’ll do some research for you. China is always the best bet price-wise when it comes to this type of production, though there can be other issued involved.

Anyway, please keep me abreast of this venture. You have my email and such. I’m quite willing to invest that which I can afford in order to help you out, so let me know!

    Shine on,
    Aaron

I know this is a bit off topic, but I finally published a Blogroll…and of course, you’re included in it! :)

I used “Ordinary Folk” as the anchor text, so please let me know whether or not you prefer something different.

    Shine on,
    Aaron

@Aaron: Engaging new readers is definitely the highest thing on my priority list, so I’m happy yet another person agrees that it’s a good idea :) In fact we could save the stories for books should the comic ever elevate to a position where things like that would be possible.

About the investing thing. Seriously? :) I was just talking to Tish and telling her about this comment (I had read it earlier actually) and said to her that I’m surprised to suddenly have folks interested in helping. If you’d like I can drop you a line. Preferably when it’s not nearly 3 in the morning…lol.

Oh and I’ll get ya added to my blogroll properly. I’ve been meaning to update that thing for a while..lol. I have a blogroll separate of the directory which randomly rotates all my friend’s links in the sidebar :) That anchor text is just fine. Actually I wish more people would use that…lol.

I’ll have to go over to the Gummy site and see, I think the comic strip is a great idea. I also love the idea of the stuffed toys!! I’ve been meaning to write you but I’ve once again been buried in emails. When I claw my way out I’ll give you a shout. :)

I’ll be on the lookout for your e-mail, Christy :)
