Holy bright monitor, Batman.
So today I received my new monitor. I ordered a Viewsonic 19″ Widescreen LCD. Really sleek looking thing, however it’d be nice if they’d give you a little warning concerning your first power up. I turned the thing on and it was like looking directly into the sun. I could just feel my retinas burning. Apparently Viewsonic ships their monitors with the “Yankee Stadium Lighting” preset turned on. Somewhere a Viewsonic technician is giggling every time a customer turns their monitor on for the first time.
Anywho, I let my eyes recover for a couple minutes then threw on a pair of shades and took to editing the color and brightness settings. After a few more minutes of fiddling around I was pretty happy. Downright giddy in fact. I should have bought an LCD monitor long ago. This thing is sweet. Aside from the burned retinas I feel like I’m surfing the web with new eyes. Everything is sooo much sharper, vivid…(er?), and just plain better. I guess that makes me a happy consumer.
The only downside is that the included drivers strangely did not recognize the monitor. Fortunately it’s working just fine using the generic monitor settings. I e-mailed tech support to ask what the dealio is with the fubar drivers. Hopefully they’ll get back to me before hell freezes over.
The moral of this post is if you’ve been considering a flat panel for a while but haven’t given into the urge, freakin’ do it man.

I don’t believe its a monitor. I think you have aliens in your house. Ask them if they wanna phone home.
