I has a golden ticket

I haven’t been sleeping all that well the past couple weeks, so I’ve been up until at least 3 or 4 in the morning on most nights. Last night I was particularly bored and decided to do something I haven’t done in ages, play poker. Texas Hold’em to be exact. I love the game.

I logged into PokerStars and discovered they are holding nightly tournaments giving people the opportunity to win their way into larger weekly tournaments where they’ll have a chance to score a free ride to the main event of the World Series of Poker. If you’ve never witnessed the WSOP or the main event, basically the winner receives millions of dollars.

Anywho, I registered for one of these nightly tournaments for the heck of it. There were about 1,000 people playing and the top 50 would receive a “ticket” gaining them entry into the weekly tournament. Long story short, I finished in the top 50. Woot! I was actually sitting in about tenth place when there were 51 players left. Once the 51st game got knocked out, the game ended, and everyone was awarded with their tickets to the big game.

If I somehow I manage to finish in the top 4 of the big weekly tournament, I’ll have myself the $10,000 buy-in to the WSOP main event plus $2,500 for expenses. I don’t foresee that actually happening, but hey, a guy can dream :)

Hey just stumbled on your blog today and started reading. So far I like what I see and will probably subscribe.

So I’m curious how the big tournament went? Any chance you made it to the big event? I’ve always been curious about trying one of those tournaments to get a seat at the WSOP, but then I realize I’d just be wasting everyones time with it. Love the game, pretty much suck though.

    Hi there Kevin!

Actually I still have not had a chance to play in one of the larger qualifying tournaments yet. They’ve been having them every Saturday and I keep forgetting to enter…lol. They have them all the way until the end of June though, so eventually I’ll make it into one of them ;P

You should try it out! It’s all entirely free. You just need the PokerStars software and then when you login, look under freeroll for the WSOP $1 Million Giveaway Round 1 Freeroll. They have several each day.
