I’m rooting for M Night Shyamalan

On Friday the 13th of this June, M. Night Shyamalan’s new film The Happening will be released. I have to say I’m hoping he’s able to once again prove that he is indeed an expert storyteller. Sure The Lady in The Water was lousy and yes The Village was a bit of a disappointment thanks in big part to its misleading trailer, but I can’t seem to help but look forward to everything Shyamalan does.

What I like most about M. Night Shyamalan as both a writer and director is that he understands how to create suspense, fear and horror without the need for gore. Sure I love a fun gorefest as much as the next horror fan, but I really love directors whom are able to frighten an audience without having to resort to shock tactics. Shyamalan is fully capable of doing just that. He just seems to have lost his way a bit. I’m hoping he’s found his way once again with The Happening. The trailer looks promising.

    That looks good. Even better that it’s starring Mark Wahlberg.

    I hope he gets it right, too, Mike. The Sixth Sense was brilliant. Totally had me fooled. The Village, eh, it was okay. The thing that stuck out most in my mind was that they had a blind woman running. Stupid.

    Never saw the water movie, and Signs was pretty good. Not too much to tell from this trailer, so I’m hoping it won’t disappoint.

    Oh, The Lady In The Water, I remember how much that movie sucked, lol. I hope The Happening will be a good one, it sounds really good.

    Have you seen the movie The Legend, with Will Smith? Man, it’s freaky. I loved it.

    Hey…I appreciate any writer/director that takes his craft in horror seriously. Most horror movies don’t scare me because they’re campy and filled with dark humor. A real horror movie isn’t funny – it’s freaking filled with terror…haha!

    I look forward to seeing it and I think he’s bound to come up with something awesome in this movie. BTW, my favorite horror movie of all time is H.P. Lovecraft’s “From Beyond”. It has an incredible story with a grisly morbidity unmatched by anything else I’ve seen:)

    @Angela: I’m guessing you’re a Mark Wahlberg fan :)

    @Mark: I loved the Sixth Sense as well. He proved with that one and Signs that he’s a great storyteller. I guess that’s probably why I always look forward to what he’s going to do next. I know he’ll get it right again eventually :P

    @Jenny: Haha. They certainly don’t give away much in the trailer, but from what I could tell, it would appear that it’s some sort of natural phenomenon that is killing everyone.

    @Christy: I did indeed see I Am Legend ;D I was disappointed. I expected more :/

    @Bobby: Haha..I agree, buddy. I actually just watched From Beyond with my cousin a few weeks ago. You should see his horror DVD collection. It’s rather impressive ;P

    Am I the only one who liked Lady in the Water? Yes it was corny, but I liked the idea of fantasy existing in the modern day. That, and the forest monkeys were creepy.
