Be sneaky with your comment name to help increase your Google rank.

The evil one, John Chow, has written an interesting new article about how to increase your Google ranking via the popular Top Commentators WordPress plugin. To summarize the article, basically the idea is when you make a comment on someone’s blog, think about what you want your anchor text to be. Do you just want to leave a comment using your name, or would it be smarter to use text that’s more relevant to your site or its content? I’ll have to admit this little bit of sneaky evilness is something that hadn’t really occurred to me, but I guess it’s hard to be evil when you’re known for drawing cute little cartoon characters.

Someone just used this tactic on my blog earlier this week. At first, I didn’t know whether to delete the poster’s comment or to just leave. Since she did leave a comment relevant to my topic I figured I’d leave it.

She’s commented on two of my posts so far. My personal opinion, I guess would depend on the poster’s comments on whether they’d get deleted or not.

Oh, I came across your blog from Bloggst. I really enjoy your content and characters. I’ll be adding you to my list of dailies. :) Have a great Monday!

I’ve had a few scattered comments that use the technique as well. I generally don’t mind as long as you say they’re leaving a relevant comment :) I’ll probably still just continue to use my name though. I like being more personal. It’s an interesting idea though if you’re really obsessed with Google rankings :)

Thank you! I actually had just added your site to my list of feeds I read as well :)
