I think the internet is broken today
I’m experiencing one of those odd days on the internet and in blogging where things all seem to be screwy. I’ll give you a few examples. For starters, earlier today before I took an epic six hour nap my Technorati Authority was showing up as 795. Nice! Just five away from 800. Well now that I’ve awoken from my slumber the number seems to have retreated back to 788. Say what?! Weirder still I decided to check it directly on Technorati’s site and they report the number as being 785. Allllrighty then!
Example number two of broken internet day comes to us from Alexa. To start the day my Alexa rating was showing 70,012. Not too shabby! Later in the day, before the giant nap, the Alexa was suddenly showing 71,639. Hmmm. Well that’s interesting. It doesn’t stop there though. Oh no! Now that I’m awake again Alexa has decided to change its tune once again. 69,089. What the heck? I don’t think I can ever remember a time where Alexa has fluctuated that much in one day. It feels as though when I fell asleep earlier I slipped into some sort of weirdo time warp.
To make things even goofier on the day I just received a friend request e-mail from Myspace. It claimed that Gummy would like to be Gummy’s friend. Okay then!
Anyone else experiencing broken internet day besides me?

Hi Mikey! Wow, ur figures are excellent! My stats go up and down on some days too but perhaps this particular prob was due to the Google breakdown yesterday, where most ppl couldn’t log on to their blogs and Google was down for a bit. Other than that, I can’t wait for u to get to Techno 1k, what will happen then?! ;)
No…my theme decided to throw a hissy fit and stick random “ul” tags into the lists in the sidebar. they seem to have spontaneously fixed themselevs. Also, a perfectly innocent picture of my bike decided to get junkbusted.
We’re obviously not leaving out enough milk for the pixies.
Nope I didn’t notice anything, everything worked as it should!
The internet was definitely broken last night. My shy blog crush was being unusually open about the topics he normally avoids with me. Yep, I’m blaming it on the broken internet. Maybe it was jumbling his instant messages! ;)
Mwah.
Imagine that :P Something like that probably only happens once every blue moon or so :D
Yeah, I feel pretty privileged to have experienced it in my lifetime! Rare meteor showers have nothing on this! ;)
I was having screwy internet day yesterday (Wednesday) but I haven’t been awake long enough today to notice yet. and I should be working…
Yep, everything is messed up…even blogger.com. So all blogspots have been kicked off of PayPerPost until further notice. Nothing like being left in limbo…that’s why my new best friend is Typepad.
Tish, I wish I could have been there to see Mike open up….he’s so shy!! You must have magic powers…. :)
@Tish: I think I’d want to see the meteor shower. I never get to see those :( hehe
@Cynthia: I haven’t been awake long enough yet today either. We’ll see how today goes :)
@Christy: Blogspot blogs are still locked out?? But they all came back online didn’t they?
Did you get my e-mail? I hope I didn’t accidentally send it to someone else. I’m pretty good at that..hehe.
Well my skin on one of my blogs had be reset back to the default when I just looked. That is very odd. It is weird internet day for sure.
Yep. The local Google server was down, overhere. And the messag was to check status on the Google blog (which is on blogspot LOL and the blogger and blogspot servers were down as well – Grrrreat customer friendliness). Then I got attacked by a worm that Norton didn’t recognise (yippeee!) that stole my addressbook and started sending weird emails in what I think was brasilian portugese to a bunch of my contacts. No reports on the virus on the NAV site, so cleared it out myself and then wanted to send an e-mail to all my contacts explaining this but the addresbook file had disappeared. Spent a couple o TimeZones to fix that. And I didn’t even get someone to ask me if I wanted to be Gummy’s friend.
I have the answer for the Technorati thing – they authority is based on the number of blogs linking to you in the past 90 days – so as each day passes you are losing the links to your blog that took place over 90 days ago. You must continue to build links to continue to have a high authority. At least that is what I gathered. :)
I have not encountered problems – but I have barely been online lately. I am having a Flight of the Conchords marathon.
I noticed the Technorati thing too! At first I thought it was that a few of my backlinks “expired” but then it’s been up and down all day. Every time I check, it says something different.
@Jos: That’s pretty funny. You’d think Google in all of their infinite wisdom would be smart enough to use a different server for system status :P
@Danielle: Well if that’s the case thankfully the schmooze is still going strong…hehe :P
@Angela: I think Technorati is just on crack. That’s my explanation ;P
Thank you, Danielle! My TA dropped (from a respectful 71 to a sad 70) by 1 point that day and was back up 1 point the next day, and I now have been able to calculate the amount of links times the average TA of those links, needed for a 1 point raise in TA. Lol!
I hate broken internets day… :(
