As I’ve mentioned several times before, my cousin Jonathan and I just love indie movies, so we couldn’t wait to see Juno. It features Ellen Page whom you may remember as the creepy teenager who tortured the creepy pedophile in Hard Candy and Michael Cera from the ridiculously hilarious Superbad.
Fortunately Ellen is far less creepy this time around in her role as Juno MacGuff, a not so typical teenager who has a passion for 70’s punk rock and the maturity of someone twice her age (though it’s not always on display). Michael Cera plays Paulie Bleeker, a slightly shy and awkward kid with an addiction for orange tic tacs, who will probably remind you a lot of Evan, Cera’s character from Superbad.
Juno and Bleeker, whom are best friends, share an evening of sex on an old recliner which ultimately leads to pregnancy. Juno’s first reaction is to have an abortion but after an uneasy experience at the local “Women Now” clinic and learning that unborn children have fingernails, she decides to have the baby and give it up for adoption. Enter Mark (Jason Bateman) and Vanessa (Jennifer Garner), a well-to-do couple in their 30s who are unable to have children of their own. They’re the perfect couple to assume the role of parents for Juno’s unborn child. At least on the surface it seems that way.

To go into any more detail about the movie, I’d have to give away too much, but I can say without a doubt that Juno is definitely going to find a place on my list of favorite movies. It has just the right amount of humor and drama along with well written dialogue from a novice screenwriter. If you’re the type that cries easily during movies, you may want to have a box of tissues handy. It’s a very sweet story and one you’ll likely want to see more than once.

I can’t end this without mentioning the movie’s soundtrack. The songs are quite original, terribly quirky and sound like something a teenager might write and they fit the movie perfectly. I wouldn’t be surprised if the film picks up a few awards just for the music.
If you haven’t guessed by now, I loved Juno and look forward to owning it once it’s released on DVD.

I actually like the name a lot. Juno looks kind of like Amanda Bynes in She’s the Man and Hairspray in the first picture.
