A little link love – Week Six

I think I may be a day or so early again with the link love but I figured since I was thinking about it I might as well go ahead and do it now. So without further ado here’s a few things I found interesting this past week.

  • When it comes to blogging sites I’m always happy to find something unique. One can only stand so many sites all blogging about how to get rich on the internet or how to build the perfect search optimized website. In Cinq just happens to be something unique. It’s a simple but fun concept. Submit a self portrait style image along with a 9 word poem called a cinquain. I haven’t submitted yet simply because I’m a perfectionist and keep starting my poem over again. I’ll make myself happy with something soon.
  • Remember earlier in the month I mentioned Jenny’s little blogging party? Well now it’s later in the month (obviously) and the carnival has arrived. Go have a look see at all the great stuff :)
  • Was Peter Pumpkin Eater a wife beater? Kali thinks so :-o She may be on to something.
  • If you’re a poker playing blogger like I am you may enjoy this super cool social bookmarking site called TwoOuts. It’s basically Digg for poker nuts. Noted Poker Authority posted a really nice write up about it.
  • What do you think of the idea of charging people ten bucks a month to remove the nofollow tag from their comments so they’ll receive a backlink? Pretty stingy, huh? What if a certain well known A-list blogger started doing it? Read What Dawud has to say about it. I completely agree with his stance. I’ve had the nofollow tag removed on this blog for a while now, thanks to Dawud. It will always remain so and remain free.

    You’re welcome :)

I’d like to say I couldn’t believe what I’d read, but honestly I wasn’t that surprised by what John Chow is doing. I don’t care how popular a website is, you shouldn’t have to pay just have a freakin’ back link removed from your comments. God forbid you leak a little page rank to the people who are good enough to be faithful readers of your blog. I won’t be reading his blog anymore. Not like he’ll actually miss me though.

    Hi Mike,
That is so weird about the no follow links because I removed mine from the Coffee Break template this morning, lol. I removed the comments one, as well as the actual posts, I hope I did it right! I was scared I’d mess up my blog.

You can guess how I feel about charging for no follow comments, GIMME A BREAK!!! It’s just so ridiculous. I keep hearing about all of the things bloggers are doing to get a link back from John Chow…who wants a link back if he makes you jump through hoops! Soon he’ll have bloggers working like slaves in his Mansion…..
Sorry – I have issues with this whole “I’m the best” thing….
    :)

Hehe…no need to apologize Christy. You’re certainly not alone with your thoughts :)

This is a very cute site! Thanks for dropping by mine, Mike. I like yours a lot. Intelligence in words is hard to find on a blog these days. Your aliens are also very cute. I want to snuggle them. :P

    Thank you Helen :)

I wish I knew of a place that would make plush toys based on your artwork, sorta like a Cafepress thing or something. Then it would be possible to snuggle the aliens :D

Oh this is a wonderful list Mike. That In Cinq site is so so so cool! I’m going to do one and write about it in my blog (crediting you with showing it to me first!)

As for plush Gummy dolls. I would buy a dozen. Wonderful idea if you can ever find a way to do it.

Your *prize* is coming soon. So sorry for the delay. I really truly was in a lot of pain last week. Coming back to life. Hey, would you be willing to share with me how you do your blogroll here (the random links)? I have searched high and low for a plugin and can’t find one.

I really wish there were a place to do the plush toys. I can’t believe someone hasn’t thought of it yet =/

No worries about the delay! I hope you’re feeling better :) I’ll e-mail you the code I’m using for the random links =)

    Thanks for the link love.

It’s amazing to me what lengths people will go through to make a buck. I’m just happy it’s not me.

I hear ya. It’s crossing the line when you take advantage of your site’s lofty status to sucker your readers into paying ten bucks for something that everyone else is happily disabling for free. I wonder how many people have actually paid him for it so far?? Hopefully more of the so called “A-list” blogs don’t follow suit.

You know, I actually found a place that made plush toys out of your cartoon artwork.. I need to look for it again. I’d totally buy an alien of yours to snuggle!

Hi Helen :) I’ve found a few places but the biggest problem is they require you to buy a MINIMUM of anywhere from 300 to 600 pieces at about 2 or 3 bucks a piece. I don’t think I could come anywhere close to selling that many right now :P

I need to write my cinquain. I’m a perfectionist too! :)

I finally did mine. It’s up on that site now :)
