I am horrified by the details of dogfighting - dogs tortured, beaten, starved, maimed, electrocuted, drowned, etc. People involved in this crime have serious, intense psychological problems, and need to be helped immediately so that they may not kill again. I am glad to know that Michael Vick's crimes are being taken seriously by the public - there is no excuse for animal cruelty.

People around the world will be celebrating and honoring animals on World Animal Day, October 4, 2007. For more information, or, if you would like to post a prayer for animals born into the cruel and inhumane world of dogfighting, please visit our site.

Thank-you!

Thank you Christy. It's such a disgusting thing and unfortunately some of the evidence being discovered is also suggesting that other athletes participate in dog fighting as well.

In that first article I linked to their informant blew off dog fighting as being no worse than those Ultimate Fighting things that men take place in. He forgot to point out one big difference between the two. The men taking place in the UFC make their own decision and choose to do it. These dogs being used in dog fighting rings obviously have no choice whatsoever. They just obediently do what their owner tells them to do.

I don't mind the long comment at all! I'm glad my little article compelled you to write the long comment :P I know I wrote it in a bit of a controversial manner, but it's something that really upsets me =/

I dunno though. I think the fact that Vick so quickly dumped the house for half of it's market value says a whole lot. Sounds like a guy trying to wash his hands of evidence. I just think you'd have to be a total moron to be completely oblivious to what's going on at a residence you own. But even the slimiest of people are innocent until proven guilty. We'll see how innocent he is though in coming weeks I suppose.

I do actually think the NFL may do something about it...eventually...or at least hopefully. They have a new commissioner now and he seems to be a lot less lenient than the former. He already suspended one other player for the entire season for multiple brushes with the law and another for half the season.

I've heard about this. I honestly want to believe that Michael Vick didn't know what was going on but .... I don't know... that IS kind of hard to believe that he had no idea about everything going on in one of his properties... he had to have heard something about it.

At the same time, the NFL does have pretty messed up players! It's funny that you bring this up because this sort of thing was a topic in my sports psych class and it was specifically about the NFL. I wish the article was online! I read a brief story about college football players who almost beat another player to death (he was lucky to survive).. and yet those players weren't worried about making it to the NFL and in fact one of those players was selected in the fourth round by the Rams. What did the coaching staff say about the incident? "He can finish a fight, that's a positive".

They also gave some interesting stats of some of the "most serious" criminal records that they were allowed to get a hold of (so keep in mind there are probably more that they weren't allowed to see) and they found about 264 arrests, 2 for homicide, 7 for rape, 4 for kidnapping, 45 for domestic violence, 42 for aggravated assault/assault and battery, 25 for crimes against persons (including robbery and armed robbery), 15 for drug crimes, 32 for crimes against property (including fraud, larceny, burglary, theft, and property destruction), and so on and so forth! I was seriously shocked when I was reading this.

So I guess, in my opinion, I don't think they're going to do anything about Michael Vick. I mean, look what NFL players have gotten away with already... including murder.

I'm sorry for the super long comment! It was just an interesting read and I had to share haha. If you're wondering, the info I shared was from what I read which was a part of "Pros and Cons: The Criminals Who Play", by Benedict and Yeager. :)
