What if this were my last post?
Maria of AnotherMaria.com tagged yours truly for this very nifty little writing exercise. The idea is if blogging were to cease to exist tomorrow, what would your final post be? Would you write a tearful goodbye to all of your loyal readers? How would you want to remembered? Any statement you’d like to make?
If blogging were to disappear from the face of the internet 24 hours from now I think I’d probably crawl into a small (okay not so small) hole, curl up into the fetal position rocking back and forth for a few hours, devastated by the shock that I’ll never be able to blog again. Okay, maybe it wouldn’t be quite that dramatic but it would be a little depressing.
As far as I how I’d be remembered I guess I’d just want to be known as a guy who wrote about whatever he felt like writing about without worrying about pleasing the SEO Gods and as someone who had a gift for making others chuckle on occasion. If you visit this site often and I’ve yet to make you laugh then I’ve failed miserably.
I’d also want to be remembered as a blogger who took the time to reply to as many comments as possible by readers. The reality is if you’re a blog owner you’re also the leader of your own little community and you can’t take the time to respond to those in your community what’s the point of even running a blog? I guess this would be the statement I’d make. If you want your readers to appreciate you and what you’re doing, you should also spend some time appreciating and acknowledging them by simply taking a little time to reply to their thoughts and messages. It’s all about interaction. In fact it’s that interaction that I would probably miss the most. So many of the blogging friends we make are just that, blogging friends. So without our blogs there stands a chance that the connections we make will fade.
Anyway I could probably go on forever about the importance of being an active member of your own little blogging community and the connections it allows us to make. I know everyone is concerned about how to put their blog on the top of the Alexa and Google PR heap, but somewhere in there try to find some time for the people who help to put you there. Of course if the blogging universe is going to cease to exist tomorrow, I guess all of this is moot ;)
Here’s hoping the blogging universe doesn’t implode tomorrow :P

I am feeling better now after a long nap. Of course now I’m going to be right back to my more usual sleeping patterns ;P
