Oscar Picks
With the Oscars coming up this weekend I suppose I’ll go ahead and make my picks for the winners in a few selected categories. Choosing each category would take too long and I’m lazy.
This past year was a great year for movies, unfortunately there were a few films that weren’t nominated for more significant awards that should have been, but I digress.
Without further ado here are my 2007 Oscar picks:
Actor in a Leading Role: I’m going with Will Smith for The Pursuit of Happyness, though I know he probably has very little chance of winning. It’ll probably go to Forest Whittaker for The Last King of Scotland.
Actor in a Supporting Role: Djimon Hounsou for his role in Blood Diamond. He was absolutely fantastic.
Actress in a leading Role: Unfortunately I’ve yet to see any of the films in this category, so I’ll just make a wild guess and pick Kate Winslet.
Actress in a Supporting Role: Abigail Breslin for her role in Little Miss Sunshine. Great, great film and she was just excellent as Olive, the beauty pageant obsessed youngster.
Animated Feature Film: Happy Feet. LOVED this movie.
Art Direction: Pan’s Labyrinth. Seriously was there any film more creative and artistic this past year? I think not.
Cinematography: Children of Men. The scenes of urban warfare in this film just blew me away. This is one I personally felt deserved a nomination for Best Picture as well.
Best Director: I’m going with Paul Greengrass for United 93 even though I know he has like zero chance of winning.
Documentary Feature: An Inconvenient Truth. Not a big Al Gore fan, but it’s hard to ignore the very real issues he discusses at length in this one.
Foreign Language Film: Pan’s Labyrinth which as I’ve mentioned previously in this blog deserves to be nominated for Best Picture as well. It would win.
Music: Pan’s Labyrinth. The score for this film is simply beautiful.
Original Screenplay: Again Pan’s Labyrinth. Truly amazing film and story.
Best Picture: As far as I’m concerned the best film of the past year wasn’t nominated *cough Pan’s Labyrinth cough* but if I had to choose from those that were nominated (and I do since I’m making this list) I’ll go with Little Miss Sunshine.
So there you have it. my picks for the 2007 Oscars. Maybe I’ll actually get a couple right.

Nope, nope. I think best picture will go to The Departed. And I sure as hell Scorsese wins for best director finally.
It’ll probably win Best Picture but I don’t think it deserves it. It just wasn’t THAT good.
Pan’s should get it, dammit :|
psst…………. the departed was, indeed, NOT that good ;P
