Incredible storm photograph

As I tend to do often times late at night, I was checking out various weather and storm related websites and happened upon this amazing photo which was taken by a woman named Lori Mehmen of Orchard, Iowa. This was the view from her front yard at just after 9pm on June 10, 2008.

Apparently it’s not a tornado. Amazing, isn’t it?

Early reviews for The Happening not so good

My cousin sent me an early review he read of M. Night Shyamalan’s newest movie The Happening, and it’s not very pleasant to say the least. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was really rooting for Shyamalan to return to form and remind audiences what an excellent storyteller he is. After a couple of lousy films (Lady in the Water, The Village), I still feel like he has the ability to pull off another fantastic film.

To quote the reviewer:

“The Happening” is a terrible, terrible movie. I mean, it’s bad on an epic scale. It’s so bad that I can’t possibly tell you how bad it is without understating the point or making it sound like I’m picking on the film. But let me stress: this is not pent-up Shyamalan aggression or a desire to see him fail. This is bad in a jaw-dropping “they can’t really be serious, can they?” kind of way.

If any of what this person wrote is even remotely true, that saddens me. Regardless though I still plan to see the film and judge for myself how bad (or hopefully good) it is. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a red band version of the trailer. To me it looks like Shyamalan is pushing the envelope at least, and attempting things he’s not done before. Perhaps that is where the film fails.

This trailer is not one you’d see on TV, due to violent content, so if you’re squeamish, I suggest looking away during all the icky parts.

By the way if you’d like to read the rest of the review the quote from above is from, you can find it here.

Blockbuster Ghost - A clever hoax or the real thing?

I’m often searching around on Youtube looking at various paranormal and ghost related videos. It’s something that’s always interested and fascinated me. I’m one of those many millions of people addicted to shows like Ghost Hunters.

Anywho, in my travels on Youtube, I came across this video which allegedly portrays a little haunting at a Blockbuster video store. The footage is shot from the security cameras. What do you think? Is it real?

I can think of ways that you could fake something like this, but if it is a hoax, they did a pretty nice job :)

Cat impersonates Christina Ricci

My friend Erin often sends me kitten pictures that she finds cute or amusing. The other night I received this one in my e-mail. Christina Ricci cat. I’d say it’s a pretty darn good likeness of her.

Christina Ricci look-a-like.

The actual Christina Ricci for comparison.

Somehow this slipped past me

One thing I really love is progressive rock/metal music. In particular my most favorite band is Dream Theater, who’ve been around since the late 80’s. Seeing them perform live when I lived in Houston was an experience I’ll never forget. They are some of the most talented musicians I’ve ever heard and seen. I never thought I’d hear any band that could compare with the kind of talent Dream Theater has, until I discovered a great band called Sun Caged about five years ago.

Since I first heard their debut self titled album in 2003, I was hooked. This was a band that easily harnessed talent comparable to Dream Theater. Their songs were just as complex, just as melodic and catchy and just simply amazing.

For the last few years now I’ve been waiting on a follow-up to Sun Caged’s first CD. I’d check their website occasionally to look for news, but it was never quite finished. Well somewhere along the way they did finally release their new CD, entitled Artemisia, last year and I managed to not even find out until just recently. Whoops.

After listening to the entire album, I had to immediately listen again. It’s just that good. In fact to my ears Artemisia is even more enjoyable than Dream Theater’s last CD, Systematic Chaos, which I thoroughly enjoyed as well.

If you’re a fan of progressive music, I highly recommend checking out Sun Caged’s Artemisia. You can listen to some samples of their music here, on their website, or you can visit their Myspace page to hear several streaming tracks.
