Prong Choke Chains… on a Pug?

fred.JPGThis morning at approximately 7:20am I took Miss Fred (pictured) for her morning crap. We live right next to a park which has a Poop Station, so I walked her over there to get her a bag. Out in the field was the crazy neighbor lady with her pug. She had a fancy schmancy camera, which I can only imagine she was out taking pictures of her pug’s masterpieces. So this Pug sees Fred and comes a running! Fred instantly freezes while this overweight, out of breath, snorting pug sniffs her all over. The Pug, who I learn later is named James, has a leash on, as well as a prong choke collar. There’s something wrong here, because Pugs, as well as English Bulldogs should never have a choke collar on, they should be harnessed. Anything that will interfere with their breathing or put pressure on their throats is a no no! Kane the Pit and his girlfriend both wear Prong Collars, but it’s to keep them in line when their owner walks them. A tiny tug on their leashes bring them back to reality when they see another dog (I am also a Pit/mix owner, but she’s on a harness as she loves everyone and everything, but would have no problem using a Prong Collar on her, if absolutely needed). Why on earth did this tiny little Pug have a prong choke collar on? He was tiny, fat and snorted terribly. He was absolutely harmless, and just loved Miss Fred to pieces. What would have happened if, while running through the field, his leash caught on something? But who am I to tell another dog owner what to do and what not to do. It’s often like telling a parent how to raise their kids.
