Technorati and things

Woohoo! I’ve finally broken the 1,000 mark in Technorati Authority, and for a while now since my authority had reached 900 I’d been wondering what would happen when it hit 1,000. Would the button implode trying to make room for that fourth digit and comma? It seems the answer is no, it will just simply expand. Imagine that. My Technorati rank now currently stands at 2,232 making my blog perhaps one of the highest ranked non-profitable blogs on the planet. That’s truly something to be proud of ;)

In other news I may be a little absent around here for a couple days. My cousin Jonathan and I will be spending some time this weekend revamping a screenplay we wrote together a couple years ago. Through a theater group he’s part of, Jonathan met a guy who has quite a few contacts and claims he can help us get the script into the hands of a few directors and producers he knows. I’ll believe it when I see it of course, but we’ve been neglecting this thing for a while now so it’s a good excuse to work on it again. There are obviously some pretty crappy screenplays which sell every day and get made into equally crappy movies. That gives us hope that our screenplay can be sold. Obviously I don’t think our work is crappy but it certainly seems you don’t need to have Oscar caliber material to make a sale.

The screenplay isn’t about aliens is it? We’ll have to start calling you Mr. 1K now haha

to me technoraty vanished the moment I installed wordpress 2.3, the incoming links aren’t based on those anymore so well now the google thingy is more interresting.

@Baron: Haha nope, no aliens. Maybe in the next one we write :P

@krillz: So far I haven’t read anything very good about 2.3. I think I’ll wait til they iron out all the kinks ;)

That is wonderful Mike! I hope for the best for you and the cousin. My mom & dad are writers and have written some plays. I think they should do a screenplay. I am excited for you!

Nice going with Techno, Mike! Sheesh, I’ll be psyched when I break the 100 barrier one of these decades… Heh.

And that’s awesome on the screenplay. So you’re an artist and a writer too, huh? Have you don any comic book work? Or is that just not your type o’ thing?

Things don’t implode near as often as they should on the internet… shame.

On another note… that’s freaking awesome Mike. You deserve it.

Sounds truly awesome Mike, have fun working on it and good luck:)

    Hey krillz,

What about WP 2.3 made technorati disappear? I have a few blogs using 2.2 so I guess I’m all set, but I’m just curious what the conflict is with 2.3? Also, what is the “google thingy” you mentioned?

    Thanks
    -Randy

WOW! to all of us regular bloggers, 1000 is remarkable. Congratulations!!
I remember my “first link” from a golf blog about 10 months ago. I did not even know what Technorati was. The only reason I found it was because I followed a comment. I was hooked :-)
I struggle now to keep track of linking, and I see you have done the SHOW YOUR DESKTOP meme with my link on it. Oofda what a wild meme night!

I will add you right now, then I better get some sleep LOL!!!

Congrats Mike, a considerable achievement for a 32 year old freelance artist. well done and keep on doing the good work.

  11. krillz 29 September 2007 at 3:09 pm Permalink

Randy, the reason why the technorati links disappeared is because version 2.3 does not use it anymore, they switched over to google instead, and use the http://blogsearch.google.com/ instead.

So there is no conflict really causing it to not show up, it’s just the fact that wordpress does not use technorati any more, which kind of sucks as the incoming links @ google are very few and old, hopefully they’ll get it rolling soon.

Mike: What bad things have you heard? Yeah the first day was hell I had php errors popping up everywhere, but I found out that some plugins were not working with the new tables, and the old tables in the database weren’t there anymore causing the problems, Google XML sitemaps and tag plugin caused them, but just updating the sitemap plugin to the latest, and some manual deletion of the tag plugin fixed that.
So it works just great now, when the problems were fixed :P

I guess I’m still not sure what you mean by “disappeared” though krillz?

What happened to your site? All your pages went poof!

  15. Mike 30 September 2007 at 2:46 pm Permalink

@Jenny: What pages? Everything is working fine for me :)

  16. krillz 30 September 2007 at 6:01 pm Permalink

    Randy,
Well what I mean is that they are not listed in the dashboard as wordpress doesn’t use technorati any more to list of the incoming links. But they don’t vanish from technorati of course :P

  17. krillz 30 September 2007 at 6:04 pm Permalink

    Randy,
Ow and the incoming links listed on google are very few and very old. Seems like googles tool is not working that great.
As you do have a lot more links than they list over at google.

  18. Randy 30 September 2007 at 7:28 pm Permalink

Ooooooh, I think I gotcha now krillz. I was gonna say, I see links in Technorati all the time, because you simply set your blog up to automatically ping them (among others)… You’ just talking about where you see “incoming links” in your WP-Admin, then?

  19. krillz 1 October 2007 at 6:54 am Permalink

indeed, but I’ve built a costum dashboard so everything is back to normal for me at least :D

The ones that were in the tabs at the top. Like your directory and such.

  23. Mike 3 October 2007 at 11:45 am Permalink

Ohhh those. I just moved it all over into the sidebar :)

  24. Erina Hart 3 October 2007 at 10:30 pm Permalink

Based on your blog writing, I expect that your screenplay is excellent. Therefore, I have total faith in the idea that you will sell it. It is just a matter of time. Then, I will be buying popcorn, over-priced candy, and a large soda :)

I don’t even understand the idea of Technorati authority. I know I have it. I just don’t know what it means. I thought it meant that other blogs link to yours. However, I have a higher number of “blog reactions” than I do authority. I guess the two are different.

(I have a lot of fun on your blogs, Mike.)

  25. Mike 3 October 2007 at 11:08 pm Permalink

Hehe..thank you. We sure hope it sells eventually =)

To be honest I’m not positive about how the Authority stuff works either. I’m at 1,043 right now yet I have around 1,900 reactions.

    Glad you’re having fun =)

Top 1000? That’s all? LOL!!! Congratulations:) Writing screenplays? Cool deal. I have written a stack of them and am continuously honing my craft. It’s surprising when you look at screenplays for big time movies sometimes. You see it and think, “That’s the whole thing?” You know what I mean? Good luck in your endeavor.

One of my favourite screenplays is by Charlie Kaufman for the movie “Adaptation” starring Nicholas Cage. Have you seen it or read the screenplay?

  27. Mike 6 October 2007 at 4:28 am Permalink

Bobby, yeh you have to wonder how some screenplays actually sell considering how blah they are, but I guess that gives hope to everyone, eh? ;P

I haven’t seen or read Adaptation actually. I’ve read a lot of good things about it though. Maybe I’ll throw that into my netflix queue :)
