The Dark Knight - better late than never

So finally this past Friday, I went with my cousin to see The Dark Knight. While it was my first time, it was his fourth time seeing it. I’m glad I finally got out to see it because the film definitely lived up to all of the hype. Easily.

While every actor in the film turned in very impressive performances, it was Heath Ledger’s portrayal as The Joker which was most fantastic. Jack Nicholson’s Joker was pretty good years ago, but Ledger completely became the character and took the role in a much darker and more sinister direction. I found myself simply saying “wow” on several occasions. It’s so unfortunate that this was Ledger’s final performance, but he definitely ended on a high note. I don’t see how he could possibly not receive a posthumous Oscar nomination and likely win.

Aside from Ledger’s amazing performance I was also blown away by the incredible cinematography and lighting in the film. Christopher Nolan and his crew really outdid themselves. Nolan’s previous Batman flick, Batman Begins was easily one of the most beautiful looking films I’d seen in a long time and The Dark Knight topped it. I predict that it will at least win some awards for cinematography and art direction.

If you’re one of those few people that have yet to see The Dark Knight, you really need to see it. Don’t wait for the DVD. See it on the big screen. In the meantime here’s a pretty funny spoof of the movie, which I found on Youtube.

    This was, without a doubt, the best Batman movie. I’ve been impressed with the way superhero movies have finally reached a stage of realism and refrained from going straight from the comic books to the silver screen.

    And I love that video, hilarious!!

    Hey Mike!

    Just wanted to say hi. I got tired of my hosting company and it’s expiring soon so I switched to your hostgator people (used your referral link) and my account is being setup now. I finally snagged the domain name I have wanted for years (www.paulasplayground.com) which was the name of my VERY first site on the old Geocities back in ‘95. LOL! So I got it and will be switching to that. Glad to see you are still hanging around.

    Hugs!

    I haven’t seen it yet either, even though Batman is the world’s best superhero of all time… Now I REALLY want to see it!

    @Mark: The Dark Knight was definitely the most realistic I’ve seen so far. It would easily still be a compelling crime drama without the whole superhero element. I can’t wait til it hits DVD, so I can buy it :P

    @Paula: Hey! Long time no hear, eh? :P I appreciate ya using my referral link, but I think it didn’t work..lol. My account with Commission Junction was kinda sorta suspended since I was rarely ever using it. Ahh well :P

    @Josh: I should hope by now you’ve seen it :)

    @Liz: Same here. I don’t see how they can’t make one more. The ending really left you wanting more.

    @Stefanie: Go see it ;P
