Upgrade number two complete and successful

If you’re a Wordpress user, chances are you know that version 2.5 has now officially been released. If you didn’t know, well, now you do!

Last night I updated my newest site, HaloVidz without a hitch. I figured it would go very smoothly though because I’m really not using many plugins there. It’s a pretty basic installation with the barest of essential plugins.

Tonight however I just completed the scary task of upgrading this blog to Wordpress 2.5. I say scary because I use just a smidge more plugins here than on HaloVidz. Okay, more than just a smidge. I use a lot of them. To prepare for this upgrade, I first tested it on my locally installed version of Wordpress, thanks to the very handy XAMPP. Once I was sure there were no issues and no plugins not getting along with the new Wordpress, I went ahead and updated for real. I’m happy to report it all went just as smoothly with this site as it did with HaloVidz. Very cool! I didn’t even have a problem this time with with my archives plugin like I did with the release candidate version of 2.5. Nice.

Now I just have to update the BlogsWeLuv installation tomorrow. I’m pretty confident that will work out just fine as well, as we use basically the same plugins there as I do here.

Sooo, to sum things up, if you’re feeling a little hesitant about upgrading to WP 2.5, I say go for it! Everything is looking very solid for me thus far. Now I just have to get used to the new dashboard design. It’s very nice, but some things have been moved around a bit.

By the way, if you’ve never tried out XAMPP, I highly recommend it. With that installed you’re able to run Wordpress websites right on your own computer, which is wonderful for testing.

    I updated both of mine this morning. They both went “ok” I guess. The only problem is that this damned Mandigo theme seems to want to substitute its own font everywhere. I really need another theme, that one is soooooo hard to do anything with.

    Hey, buddy! You should check out the Structure theme, which is what I’m using over on the Halo site. Once you get used to how it all works, it’s pretty damn nice. I tweaked the header quite a bit and changed the color scheme, but it was all pretty simple to work with =)

    Now that I’m “back” in the blogosphere, that’s one of things that I have to get to, and realy not looking forward to it. Though, I’ve said that about every previous upgrade and they’ve all gone fwd w/o a hitch so I should be a bit more optimistic right?

    I had a trouble free installation using the instant upgrade plug in. One click, it was done and working perfectly - I couldn’t believe it. The last upgrade took 3 hours just to find a few problems that prevented my site from working at all. 2.5 is the best WP ever, I am loving it. I think this is just the beginning as so many people are working on this project.

    @Bush: I always feel the same way, buddy..lol :P

    @Bobby: I agree this is definitely the best version of WP thus far. I stumbled upon a couple of issues after making this post with one of my Wordpress installations, but I think I’ve managed to clear things up and now everything going smoothly again :)

    I upgraded most of mine to 2.5. What theme are you using? I am looking for a three column theme. Also, what plugin is it that you use for your advertisers the /go/seomoz.php url?

    Thanks!

    Justin, the theme I’m using is called AdsTheme. I’ve modified it quite a bit though. It’s a pretty easy theme to work with :)

    As for the affiliate links, it’s not a plugin actually. I just do a php redirect.

    Mike,

    Oh ok. Thanks for the info! I’m using a modified theme from http://courtneytuttle.com/seo-.....r-theme/on one of my blogs. I was looking for an easy to modify three column theme.
