The last few days have been rather lousy for me. I’ve been battling a sinus headache that seems to have come to me directly from hell, so as you can imagine, blogging in front of a monitor has been the last thing I’ve felt like doing. Today I’m feeling a little better though and I decided to take the pain free opportunity to install the first release candidate of Wordpress 2.5 on my computer and give it a little spin. So far I like it.
The first thing you can’t help but notice when logging into WP 2.5 is the completely redesigned interface. It’s much cleaner, better organized and rather pleasing to look at. One new feature that’s been added that I really like is a media library, which allows you to see all the files you’ve uploaded to your blog and manage them. If you’ve uploaded files in the past for posts that no longer exist, now it will be much easier to remove those files from within WP.
Here’s a handful of screenshots for you to oogle over. Just click on each thumbnail to see the full-size image. Sorry if they’re a bit wide, I use a widescreen monitor. Check out the password strength feature. Pretty shnazzy.
So far I’ve only found one plugin which doesn’t seem to get along with WP 2.5 and that is SRG Clean Archives. That kinda sucks, since that’s one of my favorite plugins. I suppose it would be just as easy to create an archive page from scratch though, using code already built into Worpress. Perhaps I’ll make that my next project.
There’s a ton of various enhancements but I really haven’t spent enough time using the new WP yet to talk about them in much detail. If you’re like me though and always love playing with new toys, I suggest downloading it for yourself and giving it your own little test drive. I wouldn’t recommend updating your current installation of Wordpress however until the official release of WP 2.5. I have it installed and running locally on my computer using XAMPP.

Looks like you've never been here before! Today is your lucky day. For just the price of a simple mouse click, you can subscribe to this blog's RSS feed!

I will wait for the official release, but cannot wait for it. Wordpress is the greatest thing since double cheeseburgers…lol!

I like the look of your site, and especially the ad layout is really good, easy to find and enticing.
I hope you feel better soon Mike, you sound like you’re in desperate need of some chicken soup. Snuggle up and get better!

@Bobby: I can’t wait for it either, buddy! I’ve got some annoying bugs that have popped up with my current installation of Wordpress, thanks to my web host making some server upgrades, that I just can’t make go away regardless of how many different fixes I find and try. Wordpress 2.5 is supposed to resolve the issues I’m having thankfully.
@Christy: Thank you
I hope you’re doing well. I keep telling myself I should e-mail you again soon and of course I end up getting sidetracked with one thing or another ;P
Hey Mike I’m dropping by via Bush’s blog
oh and yes Wordpress 2.5 rocks so much! I’ve just upgraded to it this afternoon… only a few plugins didn’t make it and the rest are doing perfectly fine. I just adore the new gallery function and the ability for Wordpress users to upload multiple files at one time. Oh, and it comes with a password stregth meter too, awesome!
SRG Clean Archives seems to be working fine for me. Are you using the latest version?
P.S. I hope you’re feeling better from the miserable headache!

Hi there Teddy, thanks for stopping by
That’s interesting that SRG Archives works for you. I haven’t updated the live version of this site (which uses it), so I’ll have to do a little messing around and see if I can figure out why it wouldn’t work for me on my test site. Perhaps another plugin is actually failing and causing the error with SRG…hmmm.
Which plugins did you find that wouldn’t work correctly?
i also found that the SRG Archives doesn’t work well with wp 2.5. I hope the author of SRG archives will update the plugin ASAP.
